Happy Halloween( Happy Anniversary)
Merliah sure had fun going trick or treating. Who is Merliah?.. Well, she’ s a mermaid/human who Lola wanted to be this year, she’s also a Barbie character. Daddy and Mommy could have gone to every house in the whole neighborhood, but Lola only had enough energy for about half. She still collected lots of candy.

Terrific Thursday-Scarecrow making
Like any other school we like to take our homeschool group on field trips now and then. So today we headed over to Happy Hallow where they were having a unique scarecrow building activity. The clothes you brought to make the scarecrow with would be donated to charity. (Assuming someone washed them later after having the straw in it:) My friend thought of making a pregnant Scarecrow. It was great fun! The kids had a great time riding all the rides and petting the farm animals at the petting zoo part.

Terrific Tuesday- Bones
The children were very curious of our discussion about bones. Our game was a review of what animals had skeletons, exoskeletons, and no skeletons. We sang the Head bone connected to the neck bone song. We made skeleton puppets. My friends husband had some bones we could play with too. Very interesting lesson for October.

Trick or Treat with Charlie Brown
A short bike ride over the hill lead us to Great America where they were having Trick or Treating with the characters of Charlie Brown. Just as we were finishing collecting the candy, it started to sprinkle. Well, by the time we made it to our bikes, it was raining. And half way up the hill on the way home we had a flat tire on the bike. ... Very cold wet ride home. But Mermaid Lola didn't mind. :)

Peace
At Peace is what they say about those who have left us
They are at rest, they have no pain,Believe this you must
The heart will heal itself, give time to your brokenness
Sewing the jagged edge of the hurt, sweeping up the mess
Peace for those who are still here, helping each to mend
Your joy from your memories will find their way back in
As we headed back to California following the ceremony at the cemetary, we saw the most beautiful sunset in the western Oklahoma sky. So thankful for the curtain to be closed with such a peaceful glimpse into heaven.

Good Bye Great Granny
Daughter, Sister, Friend, and Wife,
Mother, Aunt, Neighbor, Grandmother
Daring cook and gracious teacher
Her love was something so unique
Patient, Gentle, Kind and Sweet
Thankful, ever thankful to have been shown how
To love with a whole heart, not tomorrow but now
She was our guide & example for life lessons:
To be satisfied, thankful,& with family life sweetens
Surely, a character of an Oklahoma lady
Generous, Truthful, and always Ready
Her spirit was friendly and as an oak strong
She was Accepting, helping everyone belong
Awfully Funny, Wise and rich with stories
With this warm memory everyone agrees
A laughter and smile that would fill your heart
Lingers now in our minds as we must be apart
Dearly wonderful, a special woman we knew

Halloween Cookies
When we took out the Halloween decoration last week, Lola has been eyeing the Halloween sprinkles. She’s been wondering when are we going to make some cookies Or When can I eat those colored sugar little ghosts and pumpkins.... So we made time today to make some sugar cookies. ... Would anyone like some advice on cutout sugar cookies... Once you have the dough mixed up, roll it out between two pieces of wax paper, then stick the wax paper with the cookie dough flattened into the freezer for a couple of minutes. Once it’s kinda solid but not frozen take back out and punch out the cookies. For years I used the flour method of cutting out. But it’s so messy and the dough is so sticky it would always stick to the cutters, especially the detailed ones like giraffes or airplanes. So now we do it this way and the cookies turn out great! (Need a good recipe, email me:)

Santa Cruz
Sometimes it’s just too nice of a day and we just have to go to the beach and put our feet in the sea. For those of you who need a nice place for fall break, let me know we have a spare room:) Standing next to the edge of the world, as it seems, reminds us of how well we are taken care of in this journey of life.
