Dinsmore Homestead

 History Field Trip!!
When history can come alive and be hands on, it is so real for us:) We really enjoyed our homeschool trip to the Dinsmore. The ladies who gave the tour were wonderful! The activities "or Chores" were just as much fun to try as it was to watch the kids take turns waiting to do  them themselves. I really liked seeing all the old books. The children of course were homeschooled back then:)

Fruit Leather

We go through seasons of using our dehydrator. This seems to be a season of wanting dried fruit leathers. We have been making them frequently. We just puree up some frozen fruit and pour on the tray, later that day we have some delicious snacks.

Knitting Mittens

I always like to try to knit something different to learn a new technique. I figured since I have made several socks that this year I would try to knit a pair of mittens. It was really fun and they turned out great. Lola says they are so warm:)

Visiting with a Friend

My friend from California came to the area and we drove up to meet them in Ohio. It was fun to catch up and it was funny that we were both wearing stripes:)

Pixie and her toy

This is Pixie's little pink dog. She likes to play and chew on it. :)

Education

I just like this picture of what a lot of our days represents. Freedom to learn at her own pace. Freedom to sit how she feels comfortable. Freedom to be barefoot. Each day is such a blessing and we are so thankful to live in a place that allows for the freedom to educate at home together as a family.

Picture Study

With our Style of learning we follow Charlotte Mason. Each month we pick a new artists and learn a little about them and what type of art they made. This month we studied a little about Frans Lanting who does photography for National Geographic. Wow~ just admiring the places he's been and the beauty of the work he has provided with us is truly breath taking.

Mold Science Project

We added water to three different pieces of bread and sealed the bags. Then we places one in a cold dark place- fridge, one in a warm dark place- bathroom closet, and one in a warm sunny place- office window...........The results- no mold growth on any----- what was in those hamburger buns...... Or possibly we did't add enough water.......... we plan to redo this experiment at a later date.

First Day of Third Grade

The caption under First day reads
"I want to either be a singer or world explorer when I grow up"

Back to School Math:)

Monk Soup

We were learning about the monks in the middle ages and how they used to grow all of their food. The lesson had us prepare our own Monk soup at home. So Lola happily chopped some vegetables and we cooked them in a big pot. Afterwards we pureed half and left half whole. It was really tasty.

Colors from our Garden

The orange tear drop cherry tomatoes were a nice change this year. They taste great and add just a nice variation to our bruschetta.

Last of the Birthday Fun

We picked out a special dress to wear on the big night out.  The last of the birthday fun was for tonight when we went to see Katy Perry in Columbus. What a show! Kacy Musgraves opened for her. It was really cool. Especially the encore when she road around the stadium on the balloons.... What a night.

A really relaxing tea party is always so nice. Then comes the post tea party:) Now that the Doll is tall enough to wash the tea pots, I encourage her help to do the washing.
