6th Birthday Party

For this year's theme, the Doll wanted anything to do with Nature. So we made critter jello, made nature notebooks for party favors, played a scavenger hunt to follow clues for nature, and even cut the watermelon into shapes of critters. Lola invited all the neighborhood children and a couple of friends from church. What a fun time!

Birthday FUN

Lola’s favorite Breakfast of Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins was first on the list, along with some BACON and Watermelon lady bugs. After breakfast we grabbed a friend and went to explore a new place. This park had cool stone statues of animals. We had a good time goofing off there. Next, we stopped by a pet store and picked up a new fiddler crab for the fish tank. Our previous fiddler crab seemed to mysteriously disappear while we were in Oklahoma. Then we finished the afternoon with decorating and getting ready for the party.

Big Bone National Park

For a while we had wanted to visit the herd of bison at this state park. We found this park to be peaceful and educational. This park was where a large collection of mammoth fossils were found. There was a nice display of it. There was also a beautiful pond on top of a hill for fishing. The pond was as still as glass. We also drove around and checked out the camp sites for later this summer and we saw two baby raccoons.

Sunny Day in Cincinnati

We spent the day in the city visiting new places. We went to the Taft Museum of Art. We found out about it because they have art displayed around in odd places like at the zoo and the library staircase.  It was amazing to Lola that the museum was actually someone's house along time ago. She really liked that part. Then we had a picnic at the river park and played in the sprinkler water feature. Boy was it hot! Afterwards, there was a group from the parks department that was doing crafts. We thought these little ducks wanted to make a craft too, because they kept quacking on by:)

Great granny's sister has come for a visit

Trips to the country are something we look forward too. Great Granny's sister was in town for a visit so we headed over to say hello. The Doll enjoyed walking through great Granny's neat rows of vegetables looking for odd bugs. It was such a lovely afternoon.

Jerry's search for a new shell

Jerry has been with us for two years. We have been very surprised at how long this crab has lived. Well, one day we thought it had bit the dust. So I took it out of the cage and placed it on a paper towel for Lola to say her good byes. Several hours later we realized that it was still alive and the piece wrapped in the paper towel was it's exoskeleton. We were all amazed! so we put it back in the cage and allowed it to search for a new shell. The funny part is that it ended up moving into the old shell several days later:) We all had a lesson on crabs shedding.
