Gardening is dirty:)

The wheat has pushed up through the brown dirt. How exciting to have my own wheat kernels to grind for flour soon:)

What magnificent spider webs there are in the morning, when last night there were none. How lovely to see this perfect web done by spider unknown:)

I knew gardening involved planting in the dirt. I knew the wind would be blowing and the rain bouncing around the plants. But I didn't know how dirty the harvest was going to be. This was something new.... the lettuce and herbs and tomatoes all are covered in gritty dirt. How spoiled I have grown using store bought food:)

The more the merrier

Friends for fun, food and fellowship. The wii dance was a highlight as was the sweet baby kitties. We shared a tasty homemade quiche for lunch with watermelon for dessert. It's fun to fill up our new kitchen table with all the children:)

Brookeville lake

A new weekend a new experience-!seeking out new places to see is always a thrill for us. We have been trying to scout a place for taking the jet ski. So that lead us to find Brookeville lake in Indiana. Thankful for a three day weekend we took our time driving up there. The view from the dam was so clean and blue. We also ventured along the beach to see what the swimming area was like. It was all very clean and nice. After checking out the beach we went for a little hike to see about finding the Indian burial mounds. Which lead to our snake story. See here for details of that:)to our disappointment the hiking trail led to where the mounds used to be.... So that was a little disappointing. We look forward to spending some more time here later in the season.

Farmer in the making
Well, wheel barreling our dirt one bucket at a time is one way to make a garden..... Lola loved playing in the fresh top soil we had delivered, before we even had a wheel barrel. Virgil made our awesome raised garden bed and Candace had been growing some vegetables in pots. look forward to a summer of fun and fresh food!

Mammoth cave adventure

Grammy came for a visit and we went out to be Kentucky tourists. We headed south to see the World's longest cave system, bats included free:) Mammoth Cave is so cool! It was fun to see such an unusual site. The underground waterfalls were so mesmerizing. One interesting fact we learned is that the national park area was once all owned by individual pioneering families, that were bought out of their land so to create a national park. So if your hiking through the area and stumble across some daffodils, that is where a family used to live.
