Hello Aunt Betty

After dropping off Eric at the airport so he could spend some of Thanksgiving in Denver, we drove south to visit Aunt Betty. How nice it is to be on the beach. Lola played and played in the sand with a shovel someone forgot. We also went into the little aquarium at the end of the Manhattan beach pier.

Park Playdate

It’s so fun that the girls play together with their own games. We had a good time at the park. There were a few lingering flowers that smelled wonderful. Lily already had her tree up and when we came home Lola started wondering when we are going to put up ours:)

Terrific Thursday-Native Americans and Turkeys

We wanted the children to know about how different parts of the country had different tribes and they all didn’t live in Tipi’s. We also talked about some of the food the pilgrims and the native Americans might have eaten, like turtles, nuts, and fish! We made headbands for a festive little party and ate a fruitful turkey for a snack.

Stretching

Dance class is a nice hour break for Mom to run over to whole foods and have a chance to shop. Lola enjoys it so much. She likes the stretching too. They pretend to do different things, like spreading jelly on their legs. It’s hard to take a good picture through the glass.

Lounging at the library

At the library they have a nice couch area that the kids can take their shoes off to relax and read. Lola still enjoys Curious George Books. How thankful we are for such a nice library service.

Enjoying the Sunshine

We went down to see the animals at the San Francisco Zoo today. The penguins were being fed and we stopped to watch. The lions were roaring and it was soo cool to hear. When we made it to the back where the bears are we made it just in time to watch them be fed. It was awesome watching them actually fish for real live fish in their pond. After seeing the African animals we went over to the pier for a nice lunch and stopped by the sea lion docks, they are still mostly gone. Of course Lola road the double decker carousel too.

Terrific Thursday- American Symbols

As Veterans day is around the corner and we are getting closer to Thanksgiving we decided to talk about symbols of America, like the flag, Bald Eagle, Presidents, what was veterans day for, what’s a soldier. The girls learned a lot of new vocabulary.

Who can resist a good tea party?

A house full of girls usually ends up in a Tea Party, at least at our house that is:) Things that girls learn from Tea Parties.... Manners, hospitality, conversation skills, pastry decorating skills and the importance of friendship.

Hello Aunt Betty

While daddy was away on a business trip the girls headed down to LA to visit Aunt Betty & Uncle Jack and their fat cat. We took Aunt Betty to the cemetary to place some of her home grown Birds of Paradise flowers on family graves. Lola had a great time running on the beach afterwards. Coyote Point to say hello to the river otters

Our friends joined us for a trip to see the wildlife at Coyote Point and to play at the dragon playground. The river otter was in an especially playful mood. He kept following the girls back and forth in front of the glass. It made Lola and Kiku laugh and laugh. In the museum the girls had fun rearranging the water bottles to make patterns.

Happy Diwali

Our friends invited us over to celebrate Diwali, an Indian Holiday. We were terribly late because of traffic and missed the ceremony and prayers, but we did enjoy the fireworks in the drive way and the Indian treats. Lola of course had fun playing with Kiku and the cousins. It was fun to get to wear our Indian clothes too:)

We feel like we’re cheating the seasons when so many places across the country are cold and wet. Lola gets to play in the sun at the park barefoot. We love watching her ride her bike there.

Dance Dance Girl

Tap and Ballet are what the Doll is learning in her dance class. I think she might like tap a little better. She talks about the steps more~ shuffle tap step or heel toe heel toe shuffle shuffle.. Mommy likes that the teacher uses real dance vocabulary so she knows the proper names of moves.

Terrific Tuesday-Seasons and Planets

Sometimes, well actually every time, we go to make plans for our lessons we relearn or learn new things about what we want to teach the children. Our Class was really full today with two addition little ones joining our fun. We talked about how the seasons change and the plants change. The kids made some space pictures and playdough planets. We went on a nature walk and collected some leaves. There was a lot of new vocabulary introduced this lesson. All the planets, orbit, seasons, rotate, axis, universe, comet... the list is pretty long... After our lessons we usual let the kids wind down with a movie from the library. It was cute having them all sit on the couch eating a popsicle.
